delhi public school, r.k. puram celebrated sports events
When the chief guest at a sport event is Yuvraj Singh (cricketer), the crowd is expected to swell as well as participants’ emotions. The same thing happened at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram on the occasion of its Sports Day on Feb 16, 2010.The role-model of the millions of the Indian youth unfurled the school flag and motivated students with his sheer presence and active involvement. The students took oath of honesty and fair play in all sports.The list of the other eminent guests included Rama Raju (CMD, KVR, India Infra Initiatives Ltd.), Vivek Bakshi (MD, Nilayam Infratech Ltd.). School principal Dr. D.R. Saini welcomed all the guests and thanked Yuvraj for gracing the occasion and motivating students beyond words.The students also entertained the audience with a mesmerising dance show. The cricketing legend shared vital experiences of his illustrious career with the students and answered their varied questions. He asked them to love and respect their parents and elders, obey the law and work for peace and protect nature.Class VI students presented a lovely song “Love United”. This was followed by a cricket dance show “Lagaan”. They took part in various sports including races (100 m and relay). The awards were given to the meritorious students. Aseem Mehra and Sambhav Anand got the sports persons awards for 2009-10, while ‘Man of the Tournament’ was given to Vinayak Goel who showed excellence in cricket. The sports persons (2009-10) awards were also given to Yash Sansanwal, Ridhima Dilawari, Chaitanya Bhardwaj, Ojaswanee Singh and Sana Gujral.An animated dance was performed by the students of DPS Shiksha Kendra which is run by DPS (R.K. Puram) in its premises. The school enrolls only less fortunate kids.The students also presented their skills in taekwando, aerobics and yoga. The vote of thanks was proposed by headmistress of the junior school and co-ordinator of the programme Kamayani Kumar.
