MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) runs 1746 schools, teach 10 lakh students, employ 22000 teachers and has a budget of Rs. 1441 crore for primary education. Around 250 MCD schools have no buildings. They function from make shift tents. School premises are being encroached and schools lack minimum facilities like water, toilet, chairs and benches. There is no security or boundary walls in many schools, and they suffer from shortage of teachers. Teachers don’t know modern methods or model of teaching. They teach what teachers used to teach several decades ago. Sometimes, students have to bring Mats form their homes. They are not sure about school or teachers timings. Competing curriculum is a matter of luck. Watchmen use classrooms as their homes. The whole condition is pathetic in most of the schools. Nobody knows where the money is moving.
