rte (right to education) comes into effect on april 1, 2010
RTE Came to India very late. Even in neighbouring countries like Bangladesh and Pakistan, kids are entitled for free and compulsory education upto a certain age. But things move rather too slowly in India.Under RTE, all Indian kids (6-14 years old) will get free and compulsory elementary education. Schools will have to fulfill a pre-decided standard of infrastructures and facilities and teaching talents, and must maintain a 1:30 teacher-students ratio.Schools can’t charge any fee for uniform, books or anything. School management committees will be formed which will have parents, teachers and local officials as members. These committees will act as monitors to ensure that government aid goes for right purpose. These committees will have 50% women members.State governments need to build schools in each area to cut commuting time and inconvenience suffered by students. 25% seats will be reserved for kids belonging to disadvantaged sections.
