NEW DELHI: National Progressive Schools' Conference (NPSC) has advised all its member schools to stay closed till January 15 at least for junior classes due to the chill.
The government had advised schools to remain shut for winter vacation from December 26 to January 15 this time as the winter was likely to intensify in the coming days. All government schools in the city will be closed during this period. Many private schools have also decided to follow suit by suspending classes right after Christmas except for senior students.
"Vacations in our school will begin from December 24. Only senior students will come back on January 12. Classes for all others will resume only on January 16," said Ameeta Mulla Wattal, principal, Springdales School, Pusa Road. "Member schools of NPSC had a meeting on Tuesday where we reached a consensus that schools should extend the holidays," said Wattal, who is also vice-chairperson of NPSC, an umbrella organization of nearly 110 unaided private schools.
NPSC chairperson L V Sehgal added, "We realized that children needed to be protected from cold due to which we advised all member schools to remain closed till January 15. However, schools are free to decide their own schedule." His own school, Bal Bharati at Ganga Ram Hospital Marg, will be shut for junior classes from December 26 to January 15.
