sports minister wants all schools to have playground
Opening and running schools has become a big business in India. Every locality has schools minus playgrounds. They look like normal residential buildings and have limited space to conduct teaching. Sports which are must for kids’ growth are squarely ignored for lack of space. To address this issue, India’s sports and youth affairs minister MS Gill wrote to HRD minister Kapil Sibal, asking him to make it mandatory for every school to have a playground. He also said in his letter that one period should be devoted to sports and related activities. It should be made compulsory. He said India lags behind in sports while china is competing with US and Russia in Olympic Games. Government should focus on elementary schools and provide fund and encouragement to create sports persons of tomorrow. He also asked Sibal not to give green light to any new school unless it has a playground and a coach.
