teacher training must be child-friendly : kapil sibal
HRD Minister of India Kapil Sibal, who wants quick and lot of changes in the Indian education system, released new curriculum for teachers on March 19, 2010. The process took 5 years to show up the results. In 2005, National Curriculum frame work was formed to come up with the new methods of teacher training which are globally accepted, practiced and are kid-oriented.Since there was no specific curriculum for teachers’ education, the National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) had to employ much energy and resources to train teachers through specially designed workshops. The New NCERT text books, which came after NCF-2005, are now being used by state governments also. The new curriculum is extremely kid-oriented and stresses on outdoor activities more than blackboard teaching. It has power to connect children with nature and enable them to learn through games and watching nature. It also gives due importance to community knowledge and information and communication technology. Finally, we could now expect a new breed of teachers who would be more friendly to kids than acting like dictators.
